Solidbody instrument built by the same hands of Leo Fender and George Fullerton in 1947 which is the first electric Hawaiian ‘guitar’ born in 1947.
Two glued planks of very heavy hollowed solid mahogany are the base on which the two pickups were applied which saw the metal strings pass through a magnetic winding and was placed on the knees or on a table base to be used.
Its enormous specific heaviness meant that from the immediate initial complaints and criticisms of the albeit wonderful invention by the musicians to whom Leo Fender relied to listen to defects and merits aimed at improving their amps and instruments, meant that the slide guitar itself came from immediately equipped with 4 removable metal supports which, if at rest, were placed inside the case in a special compartment.
This D23 model is still free from the first modification to add the supports, so it appears to be one of the very first ever built. A sort of fairy tale then links me to the acquisition of this instrument, so much so that I am convinced that it was Leo Fender’s spirit that made me receive this heirloom and expose it to the whole world.
When I went to Milan to buy an available Jaguar guitar from a private individual, I saw an old but familiar tweed case in the then owner’s cellar among some furniture and vases/bottles and I asked what it contained.
In response it was revealed to me that the contents were an old non-functioning slide guitar that belonged to my grandfather in the 1950s and, intrigued, I asked to see it. With great emotion I was presented with a relic that had been forgotten for decades, and I asked to be able to buy it, to the amazement of the owner who almost gave it to me just to clear out the cellar. As soon as I got into my car to return home, after a few meters a service taxi entered the road in front of me and I noticed that a sheet/code D23 appeared on the rear window… the exact same serial number as the guitar I had just detected.
Gripped by a sort of dismay and emotion, I was forced to pull over and get out, opening the case and checking that it hadn’t been a dream….the guitar really had the serial D23 effigy.
I don’t usually believe in strange paranormal events, but for me this was and still is truly an inexplicable coincidence. Once home I dismantled the instrument to catalog and photograph it and to my further amazement, when I lifted the enormous and heavy plaque on the bridge, a ‘LEO’ stamping combined with some numbers and D23 came to light. I cannot say with absolute certainty that that signature was applied by the great Leo Fender, but I like to think so also because events lead me to believe that it was not a coincidence!

The OUR VINTAGE SOUL project is the printed result of many studies by Flavio aimed at the knowledge of the productive world created by Leo Fender and his historical collaborators since 1946 presenting in every photographic detail the whole Fender Vintage Collection, the most complete collection of a single owner in the world.
The first product Our Vintage Soul 1 was released in 2005 and contains the first part of the Fender Vintage Collection, limited edition and with progressive serial number, a unicum.
The new photographic work that lasted almost 7 months yielded over 12000 images which, added to the texts, add up to almost 900 pages thus forcing the work to be divided into two books, each containing over 60 tools and 2500 photographs; a work entirely realized, designed, conceived and self-produced, without publishers, in total autonomy within which there is no lack of details, curiosities and explanations acquired in over 35 years of vintage experiences.
Building on the experience gained in producing the first book, a second and a third volume has thus been expected dividing the more than 100 instruments of the collection into two historical periods: Volume 2 red pre-CBS (1946-1964) and Volume 3 blue post- CBS (1965-1974).
THE BOOKS OUR VINTAGE SOUL VOLUMI 2 AND 3 PRESENT WITH A PRECISE CHRONOLOGICAL SCHEME THE PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE TOTAL FENDER VINTAGE COLLECTION BY FLAVIO CAMORANI THAT INCLUDES ALL THE INSTRUMENTS IN STANDARD COLORING ‘SOLID BODY’ AND AT LEAST ONE MODERN EPITEMOD AND MODEL AT LEAST LISTED IN AN OFFICIAL CATALOG FROM THE FENDER FACTORY BETWEEN 1946 AND 1974.
In addition, an excursus to the ‘Fullerton Factory’ artisan construction period from 1982/1984 considered by the authors to be noteworthy despite the total quality decline that followed Leo Fender’s abandonment in December 1974.
Just like for the first volume, the two new books have been made with excellent quality coated paper, hardcover and handcrafted binding made of fabric to make the absolute relevance of their contents impressive.
The explanatory cards and identity cards of the over straps,100 instruments with their own original cases, amplifiers, catalogs, guitar cable jacks, electronic effects, tags and posters have been written in Italian but represent the minimum part of the contents of the publications that they also see photographed all the maniacally disassembled objects to allow access to the reader of all the technical details highlighted by the authors in the 864 illustrated pages.
The texts were entirely made by Flavio Camorani, the 7-month photo set was edited by Michela Taioli and Flavio Camorani (with the constant presence of the Rock 2 ′ family dog to support the work), the graphics were curated by Matteo Camorani, the layouts by Matteo and Flavio Camorani, the covers designed by Michela Taioli and made by Matteo Camorani, the printing and binding edited by Ge.Graf Forlì.
Flavio Camorani started the project and the drafts in September 2005, finishing in January 2020, then selecting the shots and following the whole layout.
Michela Taioli took 12,428 photographs of the entire collection between October 2018 and May 2019, supervising and commercial manager.
The final product was completed in March and published in April 2020 with the following technical characteristics to offer a high quality product:
-Each volume is composed of 432 pages of 135 gr coated paper.
-4 + 4 colors printing in paperback stitched in hardcover with square spine and capitals
